It's a wonderful tribute to your sister, but even more an extremely thoughtful and subtle exploration of Jacqui's amazingly complicated inner life... which you allow to retain its mystery -- even when the grown-ups around her (mostly in desperation, I think) tried to analyze and simplify it. Your own relation to her, in and through the filming, is not this at all-- but a consistently gentler, more sympathetic presence. And so I found a lot of humility in the film, along with a compelling mix of sadness and appreciation, and love.
And the two of you were unbelievably cute little kids, once upon a time...
I'm so glad you persisted and finished this movie, Nicole -- it must have been a pretty draining experience.
It is a remarkable story of your sister. The anguish, the struggles, the creativty and the inner conflict take the breath away.
The documentary serves as a tribute to her and a reflection of your love, too.
I hope many sit down and take a view.
There are many Jaquis in the world.
